India's wheat planting likely to surpass last year's planting

India's wheat planting is expected to surpass last year's 31 million hectares on the back of better water availability and soil moisture.

According to officials, wheat planting has begun in irrigated parts of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and will pick up in other regions, including Punjab and Haryana, in the coming days.

India, the world's second-largest producer of wheat, recorded a bumper crop of 98.38 million tonnes last year. For 2017-18, the government has set a target of 97.50 million tonnes.

Last season, wheat planting topped the previous year's 31.55 million hectares by 8%. Higher acreage supported by good prices would increase farmers' income and lower the country's dependence on imports.

According to trade figures, the country has already imported 1 million tonnes of the commodity this year. As on October 1, the government's wheat stock stood at about 25.3 million tonnes.

Palm oil demand strong as top buyers China, India restock inventories

Palm oil demand is expected to remain robust for the rest of the month as key consumer countries India and China rebuild low stock levels, bucking a seasonal trend in which shipments of the tropical oil typically taper off at year-end.

A narrow discount to a rival edible oil, however, could limit demand growth moving forward, say traders and analysts, since buyers usually switch to more favoured soyoil when its price premium over palm narrows.

The price differential or the spread between palm oil on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange and Chicago Board of Trade soyoil has been hovering between $80 and $90 a tonne, soyoil's narrowest premium over palm since February.

"For October we're looking at a 10 to 13 percent gain in exports, mainly from China and India, though India demand may slow compared to the previous month," said David Ng, a derivatives specialist at Phillip Futures in Kuala Lumpur.

http://tradenivesh.com/services/mcx--nivesh.php

India and China are the world's top two buyers of palm oil, and command a substantial share of global demand. Palm oil import demand from China and India, which celebrate the Mid-Autumn and Diwali festivals respectively this month, had already gained in September as buyers stocked up ahead of the events.

Gold falls to seven-week low as dollar firms

Gold edged down to a 7-week low on Tuesday, as equities and the dollar were buoyed in Asian trade by upbeat economic data and strong U.S. treasury yields.
Spot gold was down 0.1 percent at $1,269.20 an ounce by 0337 GMT, after earlier touching its lowest since mid-August at $1,267.76.

U.S. gold futures for December delivery shed 0.3 percent to $1,272 an ounce.
"Gold no doubt is struggling for the moment as at least three variables are arrayed against it, namely, a stronger dollar, a higher rate environment and possibly a reduction in tensions with North Korea if tentative contacts revealed over the weekend amount to something," INTL FCStone analyst Edward Meir said in a note.

"We see gold possibly getting to a low of $1,245 before running into some credible support."

Oil edges up on rising refinery demand, falling U.S. rig count

SINGAPORE - Oil markets were firm on Monday and remained near multi-month highs hit late last week as the number of U.S. rigs drilling for new production fell and refineries continued to restart after getting knocked out by Hurricane Harvey.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures were at $50.01 per barrel at 0547 GMT, and close to the more than three-month high of $50.50 reached last Thursday.

Brent crude futures, benchmark for oil prices outside the United States, were at $55.71 a barrel, up 9 cents and not far from the almost five-month high of $55.99 touched on Thursday.

"Demand forecasts from OPEC and IEA ... continued to improve sentiment in the market. Refineries are also reporting a much better recovery from the recent hurricanes," ANZ bank said on Monday.

Oil refineries across the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean were restarting after being shut due to hurricanes Harvey and Irma, which battered the region over the past three weeks.

Royal Dutch Shell's Deer Park refinery in Texas was among the latest, beginning its restart on Sunday. The plant can process 325,700 barrels per day.

The market participants expect that gold to trade sideways on Tuesday due to profit booking after the recent rally. While stronger dollar index and less damage by Hurricane IRMA are factors pushing down the gold prices.

Essar Oil announces $250 mn capex for UK refinery

Ruia brothers led Essar Oil UK on Wednesday announced its plans to invest $250 million in capital expenditure and maintenance at Stanlow refinery to boost production and revenues.

"Major investment in 2018 will increase annual throughput from 68 million to 75 million barrels," the company said in a release here.

Essar Oil UK Non-Executive Chairman Prashant Ruia in a statement said the major investment "we have confirmed in Stanlow will materially increase throughput and further grow revenues, building on the tremendous progress we have made in turning around the business over the past six years".

"Essar has committed this year to a significant multi-million dollar capex investment in the Tiger Cub project at Stanlow to deliver improved yields across the product slate and drive revenue growth," Chief Executive Officer S. Thangapandian said.

Essar Oil UK owns and operates the Stanlow refinery complex, which produces over 16 per cent of transport fuels in the UK, the company said.

Crude Oil prices to trade lower

WTI oil prices declined by 0.3 percent yesterday to close at D46.4 per barrel as Reuters estimated that at least 3.65 million barrels per day (bpd) of refining capacity was offline or 19.6 percent of total U.S. capacity after Motiva  shuttered the largest U.S. refinery. Tropical Storm Harvey knocked out several refineries and disrupted fuel production, while a backup in crude supplies pushed U.S. crude oil futures down more than 2.5 percent.

Brent crude, the international benchmark for crude trading, was down 30 cents at $51.70 a barrel by 0825 GMT. U.S. crude fell 25 cents to $46.19.

U.S. crude inventories fell by 5.78 million barrels last week, the API industry group reported on Tuesday, suggesting a gradual tightening of the U.S. oil market. The figures, however, do not reflect the impact from Harvey.
